Get up on your feet this winter!

Now that the holiday season is behind us, why not try something new to spice up cold winter days? There is so much winter fun in all parts of Lorain County. You might even find a burst of motivation to get started on a New Year's resolution to be more active in 2013!
Vermilion River Reservation
Grab your warmest coat and boots and head to your favorite hill for some sledding on a snowy day! Not sure where to go, or just looking for a change of scenery from your last sledding adventure? Check out Vermilion River ReservationCarlisle ReservationCascade Park in Elyria, behind Philips Gym in Oberlin, South Central Park in North Ridgeville, behind Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst, or the Wellington Upground Reservoir. Have a favorite hill that wasn't mentioned? Let us know with a comment below! Kids and adults can both have a blast sledding, and don't forget all the calories you can burn trekking up and down the hill with your sled in tow!

North Park Ice Rink, Elyris
Looking for a more exciting leg workout than your usual jog, or just want a new way to spend an afternoon? Mix things up with a few hours of ice skating! Grab some friends or family and head to Elyria, Ohio for open skate (or, for the less experienced of us, a learn to skate session) at the North Park Ice Arena. Not only will you be working those leg muscles, but there's an opportunity for fun with the whole family.

Hiking in the Lorain County Metro Parks
Don't forget that many of the Lorain County Metroparks allow cross-county skiing and snowshoeing (as long as there is a minimum of 3 inches of packed snow). Bring out your skis, or make the investment in this new hobby, and enjoy all that your local parks have to offer this winter! If you don't feel up to buying a set of skis, snowshoeing is the choice for you! The metro parks offer many winter programs for those who want to give this ever growing sport a try, and they even provide the shoes! If you'd rather go at your own pace, you can rent snowshoes on an hourly basis. You can find times for this, and tons of other opportunities for winter fun here. And of course, you can always go back to the basics and go on a winter hike. There's no better way to appreciate the gorgeous winter landscape than to walk out into the middle of it!
