New Holiday Traditions in Lorain County

Try something new this holiday season and add a twist to your traditional celebration! Light displays, carolers, and mistletoe are a must, but why not try a few of these unique holiday activities and celebrations. 

Do-It-Yourself Holiday Décor

Old Fashioned Holiday
Experience what it was like to celebrate the holidays as a pioneer! There will be a reenactment as you tour the Benjamin Bacon House Museum at Vermilion River Reservation with authentic sights, smells and sounds of a pioneer holiday. A live band performance, food, and horse-drawn carriage rides are also available. [12/4, 3-8pm; 12/5, 2-6pm]
  
An International Holiday
Celebrate the season by learning how other cultures throughout the world observe the holidays at French Creek Nature Center’s, “Holiday Traditions Around The World.” You will travel to different "countries" set up in the Nature Center. Each country will have a craft or activity and a customary holiday treat. This year's countries will include Germany, Norway, Canada, Ireland, and a few others. After traveling, enjoy a soup dinner. A Holiday Whodunit
The Oberlin Inn hosts a
Holiday Murder Mystery, complete with a dinner buffet and overnight accommodations. Reservations required. [12/11, 440.775.1111]

Holiday Wine Tasting with the Lake Erie Crushers
Do wine and baseball mix? In this case, yes! Join the Lake Erie Crushers at the All Pro Freight Stadium for Italian wines and cuisine. [12/15, 6-9pm. 440.934.3636]


A Christmas Cabaret
Back by popular demand—
A Christmas Cabaret will take you on a sleigh ride of 30 songs for the season and other festive curiosities – plus evergreens like Winter Wonderland, White Christmas, Silver Bells, God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen, and many more. Performances at Stocker Art Center were sold out last year, so get your tickets early! [12/17, 7:30pm & 12/18, 3:00pm; $15/Adults; $10/Children 12 & under]

Ballroom Dancing on the Lake

Autumn Activities You Don't Want To Miss!

As fall nears its end, make the most of these harvest happenings before the seasons change! Cozy up for a cup of cider, explore the fall colors outdoors, get creative with your costume for this year’s best harvest parties, and of course—get spooked! Read on for details.

Monday - Saturday, 9am-6pm through Halloween; free admission
Apple picking at Millers Apple Hill is an experience you won't want to miss. After you stock up on cider and apples at the orchard, let your kids roam Pumpkin Land. The play area has two hay mazes, scarecrows, farm animals and plenty of pumpkins.

Saturdays & Sundays through the end of October, 12-5pm; $6.00
Take a weekend hay ride to pick a pumpkin from Fitch’s Farm Market.

October 23 & October 24 at the Carlisle Visitor Center12-5pm; Corn maze $1 per person
Experience fall with free wagon rides pulled by draft horses, then follow up on an adventurous walk through the adjacent corn maze! 

Fridays & Saturdays, 5-10pm through Oct. 30 at Carlisle Visitor Center; free admission, fee for food & games  
Haunted hike, train ride, food, games live music and magic.

Hear Bonnie Brae Elk Farm’s bull elk haunting bugle and take a wagon ride to see them up close. Stay warm with a cup of elk chili.

October 30 from 8am-4pm at Jamie’s Flea Market
Trick or Treat for children under 12 and scavenger hunt for adults.

Support the Murray Ridge Levy by running or walking the course along the scenic Inland Trail of Lorain County Metro Parks, beginning at Murray Ridge School.

Eerie Experiences

Vermilion's Old Haunted State Street School presents "Terror in the Field."  Watch every eerie step you take in this exciting and scary "haunted" corn maze.

Escape the nationally ranked indoor haunted house, which has doubled in size for 2010. Discretion is advised for children under 10.
